MAGGI bouillons are made from carefully selected ingredients. Our bouillons contain iodized salt, sugar, chili, pepper, cloves, onion, corn starch, monosodium glutamate (MSG), palm oil, soya lecithin, color caramel, cassava, lovage and soy beans.

All our MAGGI bouillons contain iodized salt and majority of them are fortified with iron. Each serving (i.e. a meal for 6 people prepared with 5 cubes or 2 tablets) provides for over 30% of the recommended daily allowance of iodine and 15% of the recommended daily allowance of iron.

2. Beyond good taste, what else does MAGGI provide for me as a consumer?

All MAGGI bouillons contain iodized salt and majority of them are fortified with iron. Iron deficiency is the most widespread nutritional deficiency in the world. It undermines the lives millions of children and women in the Central and West Africa region, causing irreversible cognitive and physical impairments, lowered immunity to infections, decreased physical activity and work productivity, amongst others.

 

3. MSG is part of the ingredients for MAGGI. Isn’t MSG bad for health?

Monosodium glutamate, commonly known as glutamate or MSG, is a flavor enhancer. MSG is naturally found in tomatoes, mushrooms and parmesan cheese. A MAGGI bouillon typically provides less than 0.5g per portion, which is well within the Acceptable Daily Intake defined by the European Food Safety Administration.

 

4. Are MAGGI cubes bad for health?

MAGGI cubes are safe and pose no danger to the health of consumers. They are made from carefully selected ingredients, which have been approved by regulatory authorities.

Nutritionists recommend consuming all foods in moderation. If you are following a low or no salt diet, we advise that you follow your healthcare professional’s recommendations as MAGGI cubes contain sodium

5. How many MAGGI cubes should I use when cooking?

When preparing a meal for six persons, you should use two MAGGI tablets or five cubes in total. This provides the equivalent of 30% of the recommended daily intake for iodine and 15% of the recommended daily allowance of iron.

MAGGI bouillons are made to enhance taste, with a precise and limited amount of salt, thanks to the spices, herbs and other ingredients used in their recipe

We know that often, consumers add salt during the cooking process or at the table. We advise that you add MAGGI bouillons at the beginning of or in the middle of the cooking process and that you avoid adding extra salt, as bouillons already contain some.

7. Why don’t you include the expiry date on the MAGGI tablets and cubes?

You can find the expiry date on the sachets and trays of all our MAGGI bouillons. Expiry dates are also printed on majority of MAGGI tablets. Because of their small size, single cubes do not have expiry dates. You can however find their expiry dates on the sachets.

Furthermore, millions of MAGGI bouillons are produced and sold every day in Central and West Africa. This ensures that our retailers (mostly market women) sell out every day and have new stock for the following day, resulting in constant freshness of the product.

8. What does MAGGI do about counterfeit products?

We assure you that the quality and safety of our products is a non-negotiable priority for Nestlé. Our consumers can buy MAGGI products manufactured according to our high-quality standards and sold in authorized distribution channels.

Counterfeiting is an illegal activity to mislead consumers that we take very seriously.

When we are made aware of the existence of counterfeit Nestlé products, we work closely with the relevant national authorities like customs services to ensure their removal from the market. Report any Nestlé products you suspect to be counterfeit to the consumer services team.

9. Do Maggi cubes cause hypertension?

One of the causes of hypertension, according to the WHO is an unhealthy diet. To help prevent and treat hypertension the WHO encourages people to have healthy diets.

A healthy diet refers to a healthy lifestyle with emphasis on proper nutrition for infants and young people, eating five servings of fruit and vegetables a day, reducing saturated and total fat intake, and reducing salt intake to less than 5g of salt per day.

10. Do Maggi cubes cause sexual weakness / lower sexual performance?
